I have been using and recommending Dogtra collars to my clients for years. They offer a wide variety of different collars that meet the needs of almost every dog and temperament out there. Once you have found the right collar, you need to make sure you are using appropriate contact points. If the collar is not making consistent contact with the dogs skin, it will not work properly. Luckily, Dogtra offers replacement contact points for dogs with longer or thicker fur. The 2 different sizes I find myself using in addition to the 5/8" points that come standard on most models are 1" or 3/4".

The 1" contact points are absolutely crucial for Huskies, Chows, Sheepdogs, Newfoundlands and many other breeds with notoriously long and thick fur.

If it is possible, I prefer to use the 3/4" contact points on most of the other dogs with long or thick fur. The 1"points can just feel a bit big or bulky in a lot of situations. 3/4" contact points may fit a smaller dog a little better and they can work as a better alternative for dogs with a slightly thicker coat. I find myself using these points on some German Shepherds, Corgis, Australian Shepherds and various other breeds with slightly longer fur.
